Bachelor of Design in Fashion Design  
     
 
This program provides you with practical and theoretical understanding of contemporary fashion design for the market. Balancing conceptual, technical and fashion design skills, the program develops creative knowledge of the design process and an understanding of garment construction and manufacturing in women's wear, men's wear and children's wear. The application of textiles and the ability to identify contemporary social and fashion trends, technical and manufacturing systems is also explored. You will be guided by the exploration of design principles; the ability to evaluate mood, silhouette, fabric and colour; and technical application and innovation.
Graduates will be able to develop their positions as contemporary and creative fashion designers, working as strategic team members, leaders, and independent designers or in many of the specialized areas within the fashion industry.

 

 
 
First Year  
 
The first year which lays the foundation, is a common one for all students. The focus is on exploration and getting design acumen. Students thereby learn the process of design and methods of applying human centered approach to problem solving. They are also introduced to various areas, which they would explore in detail during the duration of the course.

 

 
Second Year  
 
Students receive inputs on fundamentals of design through courses that employ the pedagogical tools of theory and applications. Spread over two semesters, the process of introduction and orientation to fashion design is made effective with subjects like Fashion studies, Illustration, Fabric studies, Garment construction, Draping, Merchandising and Indian heritage textiles. During this period the students are also exposed and educated on software tools relevant to the prevailing fashion and apparel industry. Courses covered in the third and fourth semester supports students to conclude the year with an extensive “Craft documentation project”.

 

 
Third Year  
 
This year delves deeper into core discipline areas with greater emphasis on individual creativity. During the Fifth and Sixth semester, the approach evolves from cognition to problem solving. Subjects like Stylization and advanced illustration, Knitwear design, Garment manufacturing technology, World costumes, Fashion marketing & retailing, Design development and line planning, are all studied in greater detail with emphasis on project work.

The year is concluded with the Internship projects, taken up by each student individually in order to understand and apply their skills towards actual industry requirements.

 

 
Forth Year  
 
This year throws light on subjects like Fashion Forecast & Trend analysis, which are supported by in depth research, interactive seminars and design projects. Students develop a deeper understanding towards the subjects, which helps them identify their area of specialization and create both hi-fashion and prêt lines to support the same.
